Gujarat’s Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre, which is known for hosting the iconic Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit is being turned into a Covid hospital. The State government of Gujarat, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Tata Trust have come together to set up a 900-bed hospital.
All Covid patients coming to Gandhinagar would be admitted to the DRDO Covid hospital at Mahatma Mandir. This will reduce pressure on GMERS civil hospital where a larger number of Covid patients are being admitted for treatment from across the district.
The new facility in Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre is spread across four halls covering 12,000 sq mt barring the main convention hall. According to a senior DRDO official, all the 900 oxygen beds were ready, and the only task is to refill the oxygen tank which would last for a day for all the 900 beds.
